Stepping onto the vibrant campus of the Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) this July is more than just attending a conference — it is stepping into a welcoming, open-source family. Whether you are a student, designer, or agency owner, WordCamp is a structured celebration of WordPress built to help you grow. If you are feeling a bit nervous about attending for the first time, keep this in mind: “Everyone here was a first-time attendee once, and we want to make sure everyone feels supported.”
Here is your concise, practical guide to navigating the historic, first-ever WordCamp Rajshahi.
1. Pre-Event Preparation
- Tickets Are Fully Sold Out: Regular tickets are completely sold out! We are thrilled to welcome over 500 expected in-person attendees to this landmark open-source gathering.
- Check for Micro-Sponsor Tickets: If you missed out on securing a Regular Ticket, visit our official ticketing page to see if Micro-Sponsor Tickets are still available! For BDT 5,000, purchasing a Micro-Sponsor Ticket directly covers your true attendance costs and pays it forward to keep the event accessible to regional students, while granting you premium upgrades like an invitation to our private Welcome Dinner, plus top-of-page website recognition.
- Adopt the Hallway Strategy: While the session tracks are amazing, do not pack your schedule too tightly. Spontaneous “hallway conversations” over coffee are where lifelong collaborations and professional friendships are born.
2. Weather & What to Pack
- Dress Code & Monsoon Weather: Rajshahi in July is warm, humid, and coincides with peak mango and monsoon season. Wear light, breathable clothing, comfortable walking shoes, and pack a compact umbrella.
- A Chilly Warning: The RUET Auditorium Hall is fully air-conditioned and can get quite cold. Bring a light jacket or sweater to stay comfortable during indoor tracks.
- First-Timer’s Backpack Checklist:
- Laptop & Charger: Essential for Contributor Day coding or translation workshops.
- Power Bank: Keep your mobile devices charged throughout the day.
- Travel Adapter & Reusable Bottle: Stay powered up and hydrated.
- Extra Foldable Bag: Sponsors will be distributing custom swags (T-shirts, mugs, stickers)—an extra bag helps carry them easily!
3. Navigating Day 1 & Day 2
- Day 1: Contributor Day (2nd July): Join us at the RUET Auditorium Hall to give back to the open-source software powering the web.You do not need to be an expert developer to contribute! Our experienced Table Leads will guide you across 15 available contribution tables (Bangla Translation, Documentation, Core Development, Core AI, and Design).
- Day 2: Conference Day (3rd July): Registration opens at 8:00 AM. Try to attend a balanced mix of technical tracks (React, API Testing) and non-technical business tracks.
- Eco-Friendly Networking: Save a custom QR code on your phone lock screen that links directly to your LinkedIn or personal website. It makes exchanging contact details contactless, quick, and sustainable!
4. Special Guide for Students
WordCamp is a massive launchpad for students at RUET, Rajshahi University, Varendra University, North Bengal International University:
- Resume Booster: Join Contributor Day tables to earn public contribution badges directly on your WordPress.org profile.
- Career Opportunities: Visit the sponsor booths to learn about local tech products and ask about open internships or junior positions.
- Ask Questions: Take advantage of post-session Q&As. Speakers love helping young, passionate learners.
5. Keep the Magic Alive After the Event
Once the closing ceremony wraps up, don’t let the momentum fade. Follow up with your new connections on LinkedIn, share a quick blog post summarizing your key takeaways, and catch up on any parallel tracks you missed on WordPress.tv once recordings go live.
Get ready to make history in the Silk City—we can’t wait to see you at RUET!
